Role (Supporting): Chris, Security Guard
No Child was a great time, lots of great people and great things. No Child took place when places and schools began opening up and we all had to wear masks. (Ignore us not having masks in the picture).
The set design by Sean Blue and Ricardo Melendez was pretty in-genius. So, because schools still had to abide by the 6-foot distance rule recommended by the CDC and implemented by the School Board, the set was created in boxes. 9 boxes, elevating the farther upstage you went. The tallest boxes were 9 feet tall and the shortest 3 feet (I was dead center on the bottom row on a 3 foot box). It was configured in such a way that we were always 6 feet away from each other and therefore were able to remove our masks as we performed for the live audience in the Black Box.
I played two roles, Chris and the Security guard. I'll tell yah, Chris was a favorite character, because he was just Chris. He definitely had problems... The Security Guard, OH MY GOSH. Rehearsals for the security guard were so stressful. Because this guy is supposed to be tough and mean and a bully (as are high school security). When I say I struggled portraying that, I mean it, I struggled hard. For many rehearsal days I just simply couldn't get it, but then one day, BOOM: I was an asshole. The Security Guard was a challenge, but I'm glad I actually got it.
Fun Fact: No Child was my first live audience show for the Governor's School for the Arts.
